Drivers should travel in cars ready for winter in the next few days, the Road Infrastructure Agency (API) has urged. The agency's press office said forecasts point to worse weather, with rain and falling temperatures.

Snow is forecast in the Balkan Mountains, Vitosha, Rila and Pirin. Light snow is falling today at the Petrohan pass.

Traffic was temporarily restricted today at the 170km mark of the I-1 road between Rebarkovo and Lyutidol because of a crash.

Cars not ready for winter block traffic, make life harder for other drivers and slow the snow ploughs, API warns. It advises drivers to go carefully at a speed that suits the road, keep their distance, avoid sudden moves and not overtake snow ploughs.

Regional road departments are watching the forecast. If needed, they are ready to treat road surfaces in high mountain areas and passes.

API's Situation Centre collects data on the state of the national roads. It works 24 hours a day, all year round. Drivers can get information on road conditions and winter road upkeep on the agency's website and by phone on 0700 130 20, which is answered at any hour.
