The medical centre at Tsaritsa Yoanna-ISUL University Hospital now has a centre for diagnosing breast diseases, the hospital said. It has added a latest-generation mammography machine to its equipment.
The centre also has a new-model ultrasound scanner. The hospital offers two breast imaging tests: mammography and breast ultrasound.
For now, patients pay for the tests, at prices below the sector average. The hospital is going through the procedure to agree terms with the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF). It expects mammography and breast ultrasound to be available soon on a doctor's referral as well.
The mammography machine is a digital X-ray system for routine diagnosis. It is built to give good image quality and more comfort to patients. The radiation dose is optimised, the compression is tailored to each patient, and the process is automated to make the test faster.
The detector's new technology sets the lowest radiation dose for each patient and still produces high-resolution images. Among machines of this type, it has the widest coverage. This means patients who find it hard to move can also be examined on it, including while sitting.
The ultrasound scanner has a wide range of software applications and transducers, which widen the options for diagnosis. The images are high-resolution, and tissue shows up deeper and with fewer artefacts. Artificial intelligence takes the measurements automatically. This gives better contrast, less speckle noise and clearer images.
Renovation of some rooms in the Clinic of Imaging Diagnostics, the Clinic of Medical Oncology and the Radiotherapy Department finished in August. New high-tech equipment is planned for them.
