Police have detained two men, aged 52 and 35, in Sofia's Hristo Botev district in a raid on vote buying ahead of the presidential runoff, Chief Commissioner Nikolay Peltekov, head of the Sofia Directorate of the Interior (SDVR), said.
At one of the addresses checked, officers found leaflets backing one presidential ticket and lists with sums of money written next to names. The amounts vary, but Peltekov declined to give them because a pre-trial investigation has been opened.
He said the SDVR received operational information that the detained men were planning to buy votes on election day for one of the two tickets in the runoff.
The SDVR and the Gendarmerie Directorate are running the operation to keep people safe and stop attempts to violate citizens' political rights. The raid is still going on.
So far police have checked 16 addresses, 38 people and two vehicles, and have drawn up 27 reports under the Interior Ministry Act.
