Firefighters put out 120 fires across Bulgaria over the past 24 hours, and one person died, the interior ministry said. Crews from the fire safety and civil protection service responded to 161 emergency calls.

Of those fires, 24 caused damage. Nine broke out in homes, more than in any other category. Four hit vehicles, two hit farmland, and one each hit a factory building, a forest and outdoor equipment. Six fell under "other".

The other 96 fires caused no damage. Dry grass, forest litter and bushes burned in 62 of them, waste in 22, stubble fields in two, and cooking equipment and chimneys in one. Nine were listed as "other".

Fire crews also took part in 33 rescue and support jobs. They backed up other police teams 23 times, worked eight traffic accidents, and helped injured people twice. Eight calls turned out to be false alarms.
