Five national education programmes will get a total of €3,003,271. The cabinet approved the money today, the government press office said.

The biggest sum, €1,066,631, will pay for electronic registers in 1,569 kindergartens under the programme for information and communication technologies in preschool and school education. Kindergartens will use them to run teaching and admin work online.

In all, 541 schools will get €896,053 under the "Student Olympiads and Competitions" programme. The money pays for extra work with gifted pupils and for preparing them for national and international contests and olympiads. The same programme also funds the training of Bulgaria's national teams for international competitions.

A total of 229 educational institutions will get €597,748 under a module of the "Bulgaria – Educational Routes" programme. Lessons in different subjects can then be held in museums, galleries, public libraries, observatories, planetariums, science institutes and state institutions.

Another €409,575 is set aside for 219 municipal kindergartens. They will develop and use new, original systems for sharing experience, update their surroundings and build spaces that encourage children's development.

The smallest sum, €33,264, goes to 34 schools for initiatives linked to significant events in Bulgaria's military history.

The caretaker government approved 24 national programmes for the next school year on 8 April. Together they set aside more than €115m for kindergartens and schools.
