The Ivan Dimov Drama and Puppet Theatre in Haskovo will premiere the romantic comedy "Happiness" on 18 October. It is the theatre's second premiere of the new season, after "In the Skirts of Vitosha", the theatre said.
The play is by French playwright Éric Assous and directed by Liza Shopova. Hristo Shopov and Ivanka Shekerova star.
The story begins in a bar, where two people meet and spend the night together. In the morning, each remembers what happened differently and expects something else. The play shows how two people can choose to be together despite their differences.
"Everyone has a different idea of happiness, but for us love is the universal recipe for it," said director Liza Shopova. She said love stands above everything and is closely tied to the feeling of happiness. To love, to be in love and to be loved are feelings everyone knows, she added.
Ivanka Shekerova thinks finding happiness is easier than keeping it, and this is the test for the characters. Hristo Shopov says the text won him over at the first reading. He said every actor finds something of themselves in a role, and the more traits they share with the character, the easier it is to build it.
The play was translated by Snezhina Rusinova-Zdravkova. The set design is by Aneliya Raykova and the music is by Dimitar Benkov.
