The University of Alicante will take over the chair of the European university alliance Transform4Europe (T4EU) from Sofia University "St Kliment Ohridski", the university's press office said. The handover is part of the opening of the alliance's assembly on 27 October in the Aula of the Rectorate.
It ends Sofia University's rotating chair, which ran from October 2025 to October 2026 and focused on artificial intelligence and digital transformation in higher education.
The assembly will let partner universities discuss the future priorities of European academic cooperation.
Guests include Sofia University rector Prof. Eliza Stefanova and education and science minister Prof. Georgi Valchev. Yordanka Chobanova, head of the European Commission Representation in Bulgaria, is also expected, along with ambassadors and Transform4Europe secretary general Prof. Dominik Brodowski.
The morning session on 27 October, before noon, will focus on artificial intelligence. Yasen Kiprov of INSAIT will give a lecture. Chief Assistant Dr Kalina Georgieva will speak about how the European Artificial Intelligence Act applies to the governance of institutions. Assoc. Prof. Valentina Kaneva will present the ethical questions and challenges facing these technologies.
The international conference Data-Centered AI covers the ethical use of AI in higher education, data analysis and support for decision-making. Sofia University says the talks will also cover the challenges and opportunities facing open science.
