Bulgaria has found its first flu virus of the 2026/2027 season, A(H3N2), the National Center for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases says.
Doctors found the virus on September 30 in a nose and throat swab from a patient treated at the Prof. Ivan Kirov Hospital for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases in Sofia.
The National Reference Laboratory for Flu and Acute Respiratory Infections confirmed the result with Real-Time PCR testing.
From tomorrow, October 5, children in Bulgaria can get a nasal flu vaccine, the health ministry says. The maker says the vaccine covers three strains: Missouri (A/Missouri H1N1), Darwin (A/Darwin H3N2) and Tokyo (B/Tokyo).
The Bulgarian Drug Agency says the country will get 770,000 doses of flu vaccine this season.
