Bulgaria put its clocks back one hour at 4am today and moved to winter time.
We warned about the change last week, on Saturday, 24 October. Meanwhile, the European Commission has reopened talks on ending the twice-yearly clock change.
The background: Clocks go back one hour at 4am tonight
The commission began a study in February and expects to finish it by the end of 2026. It will compare how the economy, society and the environment are affected when member states make different choices about keeping standard time all year. The options on the table are an end to the clock change across the whole European Union, or versions with partial coordination.
The results will add evidence for a joint end to the change and give a basis for the next round of talks.
Summer time returns on the last Sunday in March, when clocks go forward one hour. Winter time starts on the last Sunday in October.
