Polling station commissions from Sofia's 23rd and 25th districts handed in their tally sheets at the Arena 8888 hall, district commission chairs Daniel Tunchev and Georgi Ralev said.

In the 23rd district, the handover went smoothly at first. Then it emerged that several stations had not brought their clean copies. Tunchev said the district commission decided they should fill in the sheets on the spot. The stations had drafts, and no errors were found in them.

In the 25th district, a few stations with problems were the last to finish, Ralev said. Members of the district commission are watching the count of their control receipts, and the commission decided to recount the votes too. In one case there are 2 more control receipts than votes recorded by the machine, which has 2 fewer.

In the recount, the figures in the polling station commission's tally sheet are correct but do not match what the machine recorded, Ralev said. Such cases happen at every election, he said, and they were expected. They involve blank receipts that the machine does not register. He added that it is not easy to respond, because the Central Election Commission has given no guidance and no support on how to handle them.

USB sticks were left in two machines, which were taken to the warehouse of Siela Norma AD. Ralev said checking them is mainly the job of a technician sent by Siela Norma AD, not of polling station commission members, who were busy with other tasks.

Machine voting is convenient, but the paperwork needs to be tightened up, Ralev said. He does not expect the problems to be fixed before the runoff.

Information Services will process the tally sheets. The district commissions will then draw up their own sheets with the combined data and send them to the Central Election Commission.

During the handover, a polling station commission member collapsed in the hall. A medical team carried him out on a stretcher.

Tunchev called election day a success. He expects the runoff to be organised the same way, without complications. With only two presidential tickets, he said, the tally sheets should be easier to fill in and free of errors.

By the end of election day, turnout in the 23rd district was 36.46%. It was highest in Studentski Grad, followed by Lozenets and Krasno Selo. In the 25th district, more than 98,100 people voted, or 27.9%.

The three districts in Sofia have more than 1,600 polling stations. The 23rd district has 636, of which 5 are mobile and 23 are appointed by officials. The 25th district has 513, of which 7 are appointed by officials and 3 are mobile. The 24th district has 503 stations, and all but one used a voting machine.
