Prosecutors voted a second time to choose four members of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) from their own quota, the SJC said. Results are expected this evening.

Voting took place at all 29 polling stations in Bulgaria. A runoff was needed because none of the 25 candidates won enough votes on Saturday.

What happened before: SJC runoff in Yambol: 23 prosecutors have the right to vote

In the first round, 1,363 of the 1,567 prosecutors entitled to vote cast ballots. Turnout was high.

Plamen Petkov led after the first round with 479 votes. Ivaylo Iliev had 400, Krasimira Filipova 365 and Dobrinka Kalcheva 337.

If four candidates again fail to win the required majority, those with the most votes will be elected. In a tie, the election commission will draw lots in front of the candidates concerned.

The SJC is streaming live and recording on video what happens at each polling station: the opening of the ballot box, the counting of ballots and the check on whether they are valid. Cameras also follow the count of votes for each candidate, the drawing up, reading out and announcing of the protocol, and the packing and sealing of the election papers and materials. Everything can be watched on the SJC and BTA websites.

The election commission will work out the results from scanned protocols. Polling station heads must send them to the commission by 9pm, signed with a qualified electronic signature. The commission chair will then announce the votes for each candidate and the names of the four people elected.

The commission's decision and the polling station protocols will be published on the SJC website.
