Grivitsa is calm after a 4-year-old child was killed by a car, village mayor Petar Georgiev and Mariana Tsvetkova, spokeswoman for the regional police directorate in Pleven, told BTA.
The child was crossing Aleksandar Stamboliyski street at about 3pm on Saturday when a Suzuki hit them. The child died at the scene.
The driver was born in 2008 and has a driving licence. Police detained the driver for 24 hours under the Interior Ministry Act. The regional prosecutor's office in Pleven is overseeing the pre-trial proceedings that have been opened.
Two police cars are patrolling the village. One stands outside the home of the driver's grandparents, the other outside the home of the child who died. The night passed quietly. Tsvetkova said there is no tension, and work to establish the causes and circumstances continues.
Georgiev said some tension is normal after such a tragedy involving a small child, because this kind of misfortune can strike any family. He said there has been no rush of people from other towns and villages.
The mayor does not yet know when the child's funeral will be.
